Middle East
Tel Aviv, Israel

Experiences of a lifetime

The past informs the present in the biblical lands of Israel and Jordan, offering guests an interlacing tapestry of cultural history millennia strong. From the rose colored stones that blend Jerusalem's urban landscapes with its ancient archaeological roots to Dead Sea destinations scrolled with the sands of time, Red Sea resorts that sail into the future to Jordan's sculpted ruins and age-old cities with tales to tell, the places you'll discover on this new 11-day journey speak volumes about daily life, then and now.

Explore Jerusalem from different perspectives on a tour of the Old City and a tasting in the new. Discover religious relics in Bethlehem or Jaffa's arched alleyways and the architectural heritage of Tel Aviv as you please. You'll visit a kibbutz in the Israeli countryside, a hilltop mecca in Masada, and soak in the salts at a Dead Sea resort before crossing into Jordan for a Red Sea cruise. Adventure awaits at a desert oasis in Wadi Rum, treasured sights astound in Petra and dinner with a local family whets your appetite for an authentic cultural connection. Visions of the Promised Land entice at Mt. Nebo, and in Jerash, a wealth of sights, remarkably preserved, reflect Roman rule here thousands of years ago. Amman mixes old and new with a youthful exuberance all its own, inviting you to experience Middle Eastern hospitality. Read Less

Ancient Petra

The ancient Nabataean city of Petra in Jordan

The ancient pink city of Petra in modern-day Jordan was carved out of rose-colored sandstone cliffs by its Nabataean builders perhaps as far back as the 4th century BCE, and abandoned sometime during the early Islamic era. Much of it remained hidden in the mountains and desert sands for thousands of years before its "discovery" by western explorers in the early 19th century. Today, its stunning temples, tombs and other key features like Al Khazneh (The Treasury) are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Jordan's most popular historic attraction, which you'll explore on foot and by horse cart.

The Valley of the Kings

Discovering Egypt's Valley of the Kings

Nestled in Egypt's Theban hills west of the Nile River, near today's Luxor, stands the Valley of the Kings – where, between the 16th and 11th centuries BC, complexes of tombs were cut out of the rock to house the remains of the Pharaohs and other nobles of Egypt's New Kingdom, and prepare them for the afterlife. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains more than 60 identified tombs and chambers. While many were once filled with treasures, most have been plundered through the ages… with the exception of that of the famous tomb of Tutankhamun, discovered intact in the 1920s, whose artifacts and remains have been removed and preserved. Visiting any of these tombs today is an experience not to be missed.

Dinner in the desert, Berber-style

Travel by 4x4 vehicle to a Berber-style dinner in a desert camp

In the desert outside Marrakech, ancient Berber villages preserve time-honored folkways and rituals – like the traditional Moroccan tea ceremony – that have survived for centuries. Ride aboard a 4x4 vehicle to one of these villages for tea with the village chief and a crash-course in Berber culture. Then it's on to our desert camp, where dinner is served Berber-style under a tent with musical entertainment. Experience local customs like riding a camel... smoking shisha (using a hubbly-bubbly pipe, or hookah, to smoke flavored tobacco)... or having your hands or feet decorated with traditional henna designs!

A cruise on the Red Sea

Enjoy a sundowner on the Red Sea

Set out from the port city of Aqaba aboard a private boat for a sundowner cruise on the Red Sea, where the waters were once parted by Moses and today open up to coral reefs renowned for rewarding diving adventures.

Visit the Bahá'i Shrine and Gardens

The Tomb of the Báb in Haifa

On the slopes of Mount Carmel in Haifa stands one of the holiest places on Earth, the Baha'i Shrine and Gardens (also known as the Hanging Gardens of Haifa) and the final resting place of the Báb (Baha'i Allah), a Persian-born 19th-century merchant and founder of the Baha'i Faith in the 1840s. Made up of 19 immaculately manicured garden terraces, 18 of which represent the first 18 disciples of Báb, and the final one leading to the golden-domed tomb of the Báb, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see for any visitor traveling to Israel.
