Welcome to Small Ship Cruising Cultural Journeys
is close to our hearts. In 2021, we’re sailing to the Mediterranean Isles with a thoughtfully reimagined itinerary that sets the standard for a new era of personalized discoveries aboard Ponant’s Explorer ship, Le Bougainville, designed for intimate cruising. Explore Elba, steeped in Napoleonic tales; cast anchor off of Corsica, a jet-setter’s paradise; step ashore in two different ports of call in Sicily, enticing with antiquities and stunning vistas; experience Sardinia, culturally rich with prehistoric sites; and make history in Malta where the Knights of Malta left a living legacy gilded in gold and silver.
Back in the mid-1970s, after a geothermal power plant was built on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, waste water from the plant began forming a pool near the facility in a lava field in Grindavík. By the early 1980s, reports of the water's therapeutic properties prompted locals to start bathing in it. The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa was established in 1992, and has become one of Iceland's most popular attractions. Its aqua-blue pools of mineral-rich geothermal seawater – with a temperature between 98 and 102 degrees F. – are believed to have many medicinal benefits... and on your visit, you'll have an opportunity to soak in their supposedly healing waters.
One of the world’s mightiest vessels when built for Sweden’s celebrated royal fleet in 1628, the ornate warship Vasa infamously sank to the bottom of Stockholm Harbor immediately upon its launch. Finally raised after more than three centuries in 1961, the well-preserved ship is now the centerpiece of the most-visited museum in Scandinavia... and will be your treasured dining companion during Tauck’s exclusive, private reception and dinner at the Vasamuseet (Vasa Museum) in Stockholm.
Japan’s traditional geisha culture has evolved over the centuries, and especially since World War II. Today, to become a geiko (the preferred term for geisha), women typically spend years in training as a maiko, perfecting lessons in traditional dance, musical instruments, flower arranging, tea ceremonies, calligraphy, painting and the art of conversation. Learn more about their elite world during a special evening in Osaka with a lecture by our insider expert, followed by a private geiko / geisha performance – an exclusive privilege and a highlight of your cruise.

Smaller ships mean bigger experiences. Our small ships are big on individualized service, special touches and comfort, making you feel like a welcomed guest the moment you come aboard. Intimate spaces invite conversation or quiet contemplation as you like. Whether you're inside your cabin or out on your deck, ocean views beckon with adventures yet to come.
Because of the size of our ships, we're not restricted to commercial routes or large ports. We're free to follow the fish, not the fleets. We dock in places where you can get lost in the moment and not in a crowd. We delight in sharing spontaneous moments, up-close discoveries, personal connections and unforgettable treasures, making each moment memorable and uniquely yours. At Tauck, small is big... and the best way to make your cruise so much more than you ever expected.View Our Entire Fleet
