Private sheep-shearing demonstration

Day 3

Watch a sheep-shearing champion at work on a private visit to an Irish sheep farm

In many countries around the world, the art of sheep shearing – cutting off a sheep's woolen fleece, usually once a year – is not only an important skill on the farm, but a competitive sport among shearers who are typically fit and highly experienced. Ireland has produced many champion shearers, including world-record-breaking Patrick Moran. In a private visit and demonstration on a farm in Derreen, learn how sheep shearing has progressed over the centuries… and meet champion shearer Moran and see him in action, shearing by hand in the traditional style.

Private tour and lunch at Alnwick Castle

Day 9

Through the centuries with an early-entry private tour and medieval lunch at Alnwick Castle

11th-century Alnwick Castle is home to the Duke of Northumberland and his family... but it's such a quintessential medieval castle that it’s often used as a film location – “Becket,” “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” “Elizabeth” – and played an illustrious role as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two “Harry Potter” films. On TV, it showcased its rich World War I-era heritage as “Brancaster Castle” in “Downton Abbey’s” 2014 Christmas special. On your early-entry private tour, you’ll explore with interpreters who share inside stories of its dramatic history and famous residents – including 14th-century Sir Henry Percy, the “Hotspur” immortalized in Shakespeare’s “Henry IV, Part 1” – and enjoy a glass of mead and a medieval lunch.

Rosewood London

Nights 12 and 13

A timeless luxury hotel in London

Rosewood London is at the heart of one of the world’s leading cities. Since the early years of the 20th century, the grand Edwardian edifice has been a notable part of the life of the British capital. Guests arrive at Rosewood London through an archway that opens into a grand Edwardian courtyard, in a little oasis of tranquility unique among luxury hotels in London. It is the perfect start to a memorable stay in a timeless heritage hotel, set just steps from Covent Garden.

The sheep shearing in Ireland and the group dinner in Edinburgh with piper and haggis presentation were huge highlights for me.
