Experiences of a lifetime

Go where the wild things are... and you will find yourself in Southern Africa... specifically the national parks of Botswana and Zambia, which together hold the largest concentrations of unspoiled wilderness and wildlife on the planet... and if you want to get closer... then you've come to the right place.

On safari, explore some of the continent's most spectacular wildlife reserves; stay in luxury tented camps and five-star luxury hotels, view the Okavango Delta by mokoro canoe and helicopter, enjoy sundowners under a blazing African sunset, dine at private homes, in elegant hotels and under the stars in the bushveld... this is the Africa you've been looking for. Siya namkela nonke! (Welcome!)   Read Less

The Okavango Delta by helicopter and canoe

Day 6

One of the world's great wildlife habitats...

Listen to the gentle, rhythmic splash as you are poled along and then attune your ears to other sounds. Long reed frogs will be out enjoying the sun: tiny as your fingertip, they emit extraordinarily loud croaks that resemble Oriental wind chimes. Spiders spin glistening webs above the water; luminous dragonflies hover with whirring wings; game such as red lechwe antelope, reed bucks and giraffes come to drink. But for many, it is the birds of this ornithological paradise that dazzle. Stately egrets, storks, cormorants and even fishing eagles swoop overhead... but for pure drama, the magnificent malachite kingfisher steals the show.

Spend two nights in the Makgadikgadi Pans

Days 7 and 8

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, largest salt flats in the world

Watching the sun set in the heart of one of the most remote regions of the Kalahari Desert is one of those life-changing experiences – the silence is golden, the spectacle of the panoramic sky nothing short of inspirational. A fitting finale to the day is a sundowner, of course, and dinner.

Belmond Eagle Island Lodge

Nights 5 and 6

A modern, sophisticated sanctuary on a private island at the heart of the Okavango Delta...

Belmond Eagle Island Lodge brings timeless luxury to the Botswana wetlands. High-ceilinged tented rooms flood with light; each has a plunge pool and oversized bed with views of the Delta...

This trip was so special, it was all wonderful... sleeping under the stars at the salt pans was amazing.

Fabulous- that's all I can say. Tauck did an amazing job. At the last minute, literally, my husband could not come, so I went myself. Had the best time ever. June was a great time to go - cool mornings and evenings and nice days. Water levels high. No worries about water, bugs, vaccinations, etc. Bring a camera (telephoto) that you know.

Most Memorable Moment:

Hard to say. Sleeping under the stars in the Kalahari- Seeing the Delta by canoe, speedboat and helicopter- amazing. George (the elephant) and his friends roaming the grounds near our tents. The people on our trip, our tour guide and people I met along the way - faboulous.

Our Special Occasion trip to Zambia, Botswana and South Africa was made even more special by the wonderful people we met along the way and our incredible Tauck Tour Director. We never expected how emotionally moving this trip would be. Sitting in complete silence, surrounded by mama elephants and their babies was simply magical!

Most Memorable Moment:

I have three favorite moments from this trip (which also land in my top ten of all time!): Seeing the Matriarch elephant lead her herd to the edge of the Chobe brought me to tears! Watching the Milky Way move across the desert sky left me speechless. And having a meerkat perch on my head while the babies scampered by my side filled me with joy!
