Experiences of a lifetime

Until recent years, few U.S. citizens have been able to experience Cuba travel. Today, meet face-to-face with local residents from different professions, share thoughts, gain knowledge, and connect with Cuba’s cultural heritage on our 7-day, Havana-based Cuba: Connecting with People and Culture.

Through cultural exchange activities built around key themes including Cuban culture and the arts, history, architecture, agriculture, cigars, vintage cars, baseball and more, you'll interact directly with the people of Cuba on Tauck's Havana-based People-to-People trip. Meet Cuban students, educators, entrepreneurs, architects, artists and artisans, dancers, musicians, technicians, baseball players and coaches and more. Explore Ernest Hemingway’s life in Cuba at his preserved home. Discuss art and private enterprise with artists in their studios. Visit with agricultural workers to talk about agrarian reform, tobacco production and organic farming. Interact with members of Havana organizations about their work, from dance to historic preservation to baseball. Learn about Cuban cultural traditions… have meals at paladares (small, privately operated Cuban restaurants)… and connect with the people of Cuba, their passions and their culture in many ways through unique Tauck Experiences. Discover Cuba's passion for baseball

To Cubanos, it's béisbol

America’s “National Pastime” – baseball – is also Cuba’s national sport. After sailors and returning students brought it over from the US during the 1860s, “béisbol” quickly grew to become the island’s most popular sport. Banned by Spanish colonial authorities, the game became symbolic of Cuba's freedom and national pride during the 19th-century struggle for independence from Spain. Cuba’s league system went officially amateur after the 1950s Cuban Revolution, but since the 1990s, scores of Cuban-born players have played in the Major Leagues. Learn how passionate Cubans are about béisbol when you meet Little League-level players and coaches to former pro and national team players.

Visit the tobacco fields of the Vinales Valley

Day 5

They grow and process tobacco for Cuba's iconic cigars

Premium, hand-rolled Cuban cigars are renowned as among the best in the world – and during your People-to-People travel with Tauck in Cuba, you’ll take a close look at some of the key processes involved in the production of the country’s iconic export, and have an opportunity to meet and talk with Cubans involved in the various phases of cigar production – from growers in the Viñales Valley tobacco fields... to the skilled workers who perform the despalillo (stripping) and rezagado (grading) of the tobacco before it reaches the factory.

Wonderful trip, people, guides/directors, food, Cuban people, a trip to not miss! Our group of 25 had terrific tour directors who went above and beyond!

Ernest Hemingway's Finca Vigía

Day 6

Tell them "Ernesto" sent you...

Famed American novelist Ernest Hemingway loved Cuba and its people, who returned that affection. Explore his life and work here on a guided visit to Finca Vigía (“Lookout Farm”), his winter home from 1939 to 1960, where he wrote some of his best-known works. Although visitors are not allowed to enter the house in order to preserve the property, you can explore the grounds and see inside the house through open windows and doors, and talk with a docent about Hemingway's strong connections to Cuba; the author's extensive, 9,000-volume library, his beloved yacht Pilar, his typewriter and other personal effects are on display here. You may also see some of Hemingway’s haunts in Habana Vieja, where he lived during his first years in Cuba.

This was one of the best trips we have been on. Our tour director was outstanding and saw to our every need as well as making the trip informative, interesting and fun. We were very impressed with the program as well as the restaurants and hotel accommodations.

Most Memorable Moment:

There were several but I think the last night was outstanding. Our tour director surprised us with a special tour in the old cars including scarves for the ladies to keep their hair in tact as they were convertibles. From there we were treated to a special concert and then a wonderful dinner.

Dec 1 2017 began our 5 nights in Cuba, one of the best trips I've ever taken. My husband & I agreed that the activities, events and information we participated in & received within this extremely well-organized and led tour were rich and rewarding in so many ways. The Melia was great, food varied and good, Tauck Director super, local guide amazing. Go. Enjoy!

Most Memorable Moment:

The surprise destination on the last night was especially memorable (no spoilers!). The evening would have been extraordinary anywhere in the world; in Cuba, the experience was even more poignant and moving. As well, meeting the many citizens of the country was marvelous.
