Experiences of a lifetime

The French influence is still felt in the cities while life in the countryside, a world of rice paddies, small villages and floating markets along the banks of the Mekong River, continues on much as it did before the French arrived.

Explore the three countries, each with its own unique culture, history and traditions, that share the Indochinese Peninsula between China and India on Tauck’s most comprehensive of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam tours. Multiple-night stays in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and historic Hoi An – plus an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay and explorations in the Mekong Delta – complete the portrait of Vietnam, then and now. From your arrival in Phnom Penh to days spent exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor and its treasures, Cambodia casts its own spell.  In Laos, only welcoming tourists since the late 1990s, 49 ethnic groups put their own spin on life and living, providing a cultural richness as seen in the cuisine, the customs, the temples and the markets. These 16 days in Indochina will expand your horizons, deepen your insights and transform your view of the world. Read Less

Tauck Exclusive – Stories by Ken Burns

Days 2 – 15

Insights on The Vietnam War

Our development team worked with award-winning filmmakers Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein to bring personal insights, stories and themes from the PBS documentary series The Vietnam War to life in filmed on-tour vignettes – “Stories by Ken Burns” – produced exclusively for Tauck guests traveling on Indochina: Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos and Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand.

Overnight Cruise on Ha Long Bay

Days 3 and 4

Life on the "Bay of the Descending Dragons"

Experience life along the historic rivers, bays and deltas of Indochina firsthand on an overnight cruise among the limestone islets of Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known in local legends as the “Bay of the Descending Dragons.” According to local mythology, when the gods sent dragons to help defend the people of this region against ancient invaders, the dragons spat out jewels and jade; these became the many emerald green islands and islets you’ll encounter as you cruise the bay today. Ancient temples, local farmers, water buffalo and more pass by as you sail into the bay aboard a ship employing Vietnamese design concepts and featuring comfortable, well appointed accommodations.

Alms-giving in Luang Prabang

Day 14

A sunrise alms-giving ritual led by monks in Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang, once the royal capital of the former Kingdom of Laos, is a city of gleaming temple tops, pearly frangipanis and faded French colonial architecture, encircled by mountains. Each morning, shortly after dawn, a gong announcing the end of morning prayers is heard, and saffron-clad monks emerge from the temples for the daily ritual of alms-giving, accepting tokens of thankfulness in the form of donated food. Rise early to take part in this extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The Luang Say Residence

Nights 13, 14 and 15

Tropical luxury in Laos

A proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Luang Say Residence is located in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang, set within lush tropical gardens with great mountain views… where you can enjoy the cool breeze and have a drink in the original 1860s colonial bar. Accommodations are spread out among five pavilions and the main residence; air-conditioned guest rooms feature every amenity to make your stay unforgettable.
