The World Next Door

Time stands still in the Canadian Maritimes... preserving a way of life that honors the land and sea – and a cultural mix of early French, Irish, Scottish and English influences.

Halifax invites reflection with gracious Victorian parks and gardens. Fishing hamlets in Nova Scotia celebrate their rich seafaring heritage. Diverse cultural influences are chronicled in Lunenburg; in Acadian rug making traditions that produced "talking" works of art chronicling the struggles of pioneer families; and at the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts. Culinary specialties are on the menu from fresh lobster on Prince Edward Island to a Nova Scotia oyster shucking demonstration to a "Kitchen Party" at the Keltic Lodge. Tauck's New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia tour immerses you in the lure and lore of this down-to-earth, mystical world of mountain lakes, eagles, whales, fishermen, and the sea. "Kitchen Party" at the Keltic Lodge

Day 9

You're invited to a "Kitchen Party" at the Keltic Lodge...

Stomp your feet to the fiddle at a "kitchen party" celebrating the folk-inspired Celtic music, dancing, food, drink, and unique cultural traditions of Cape Breton. These parties have a long tradition on the island, where farmers and fishermen would gather at someone's home in the evenings and unwind after a hard day's work.

Private tour and dinner at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

Day 1

Private tour and dinner in Halifax

Enjoy a private tour and dinner at the star-shaped Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, commemorating Halifax's role as a key naval station in the British Empire and 300 years of tradition; the location was strategically chosen due to its panoramic view of Halifax Harbour.

Prince Edward Island

Days 5 and 6

Beyond "Anne of Green Gables"...

At Prince Edward Island National Park, explore the unique and fragile ecosystem of parabolic dunes, beaches, wetlands and salt marshes, a habitat for over 300 species of birds including the endangered Piping Plover; sample local Atlantic Ocean fare – lobster – at a family-run restaurant; and yes, visit Green Gables Heritage Place for a complete look at "Anne of Green Gables" world.

Dinner at Delta Beauséjour

Day 3

That extra flourish that makes a meal at Windjammer so special...

An unforgettable dining experience awaits at Windjammer, the perennial CAA Four Diamond Award winner at Delta Beauséjour. Windjammers sailed their passengers and cargo to exotic ports throughout the world in the mid-1800s; more than two dozen were built in Moncton, on the shores of the Peticodiac River. Throughout the growing season, Executive Chef Stefan Müller showcases the freshest and finest products from within a 100-mile radius of Greater Moncton. From cheese to lamb, from seafood to fruits and vegetables, the 100 Mile Menu celebrates the very best that the farmers, ranchers and fishers from the area have to offer.

We really enjoyed our tour and learned a great deal about our neighbor to the North (The True North Strong and Free). The Maritimes are universally beautiful, some parts even more impressive than others. Cape Breton was staggering in both the majestic beauty of the sea and mountains and in the nature that engulfs you. PEI was "Anne" wonderful.

Most Memorable Moment:

The hike at the Keltic Lodge with Kesti, the naturalist, to the end of Middle Head. It was educational and exhilarating. Honorable mention to Paul Gaudet, local guide at Hopewell Rocks he was both learned and funny. Thanks to Director and Driver. A great team. Loved Halifax City as well. We'll be back to see more.

hotels and accomodations not to usual Tauck standards. For instance, mini bars in every room, not one with any contents. Not even turned on. Food very average or below average. Worst value vs. cost of all our trips.

Most Memorable Moment:

Bay of Fundy
